Digital natives.
Digital immigrants.
I don't find these terms particularly appealing so I'd like to propose a new set.
One can view the world of digital culture as an invisible sea. This sea is vast and sometimes murky. There are unexplored and sometimes frightening fathoms of data and its depths are yet to be seen. This sometimes alien terrain is the home of many strange things and contains the very engines that generate new life; things never before seen by man. Many of these "ideas" don't prove themselves viable in those savage seas.
Digital sharks: These people are the most adept at all things digital. Whether they were born to it or not, computers and the like are where their energy is spent. It is probably their career and they speak the language of that world fluently.
Digital fish: Mostly comprised of younger generations born to the digital. They might not be sharks, but they have no fear of the water and get around with ease.
Digital divers: These are students and those that desire to know more. They're not afraid to get wet, but are a little out of their element.
Digital fishermen: They use the internet to survive but they have no intention of getting wet.
Digital aliens: The extremely poor, elderly or eccentric usually can't afford to or don't want to have any part in the digital world.
This is a work in progress and I would appreciate any ideas or suggestions.
